Who is eligible for the schemes for children
The schemes for children are for everyone in Eindhoven up to 18 years old who is growing up in a household with a low or minimum income. A low income is anything below 20% above the level of social welfare benefits.

Can I apply for the Participation allowance for a child?
Yes, certainly. You apply for the Participation allowance for all family members, and that includes any children living at home.
Free bus travel
Everyone receiving the Participation allowance is entitled to free bus travel on city and rural bus services. That also applies to children older than 12 years. Children under 12 years travel free with their parents. Read more about the Participation allowance and free bus travel.
Will I get a reduction on admission to swimming for my children?
Yes you will. Everyone receiving Participation allowance pays a reduced price for admission to De Tongelreep and the Ir. Ottenbad swimming pools. A ticket costs 2 Euros per person. Children up to 4 years are admitted free. The reduction is automatically calculated on the City Pass.
Important: the reduced prices are only valid during normal opening hours.
Can my children gain their Level A swimming certificate at no charge?
Are your children 6 years or older and are you receiving the Participation allowance? Your children can learn to swim and gain their Level A swimming certificate at no cost. You will automatically receive a letter about this. You need take no action.
What do Stichting Leergeld, Jeugdsportfonds and the Jeugdcultuurfonds do for my children?
These three organisations work together. Would you like to apply for sports or cultural activities in addition to school and extra-curricular activities? You can! Make your application at leergeld.nl. Everyone can apply; a parent or family member, for example, or a teacher or a sports club.
Stichting Leergeld Eindhoven
Thanks to the efforts of Stichting Leergeld Eindhoven, children aged 4 to 18 from families with a minimum income can take part in school and extra-curricular activities. This might cover the costs of school materials, a bicycle, membership of the scouts or a school camp. Read more at leergeld.nl.
Through the Jeugdsportfonds (Youth Sports Fund) Eindhoven, children aged 4 to 18 from families with a minimum income can play a sport. The fund pays for subscription fees, for example, and sometimes for sports clothing or equipment. The allowance is a maximum of 225 Euros per child a year. Through the Jeugdcultuurfonds (Youth Culture Fund) Eindhoven children aged 4 to 18 from families with a minimum income can join a music or dance school or take part in other cultural activities. The allowance is a maximum of 450 Euros per child for a year's course. This can be used to pay for lessons or equipment, such as an instrument. What can the Nationaal Fonds Kinderhulp do for my children?
The Nationaal Fonds Kinderhulp (National Child Assistance Fund) helps children who live in poverty, and are socially excluded because of that. Children who have no-one else to turn to. The fund helps with a subscription to a sports club, for example, or a bicycle, a course or a day out. Applications can only be made through a social aid organisation, such as WIJeindhoven, a youth care organisation or a food bank. For more information, go to kinderhulp.nl.
Is there somewhere I can borrow toys for my children?
At Spel-o-theek Lunet, everyone can borrow toys for a fee starting from 35 Euros a year. The Spel-o-theek is located at Nuenenseweg 1, 5631KB te Eindhoven.
Speelcadeau is Eindhoven's toy bank. Speelcadeau collects good, used toys throughout the year, and passes them on to children aged up to 12 years. Low-income families can go to the shop on Bloemfonteinstraat in Eindhoven twice a year, to pick out toys. A letter of referral is required, for example from your family doctor, the school, WIJeindhoven, MEE Zuidoost-Brabant, debt settlement workers or the food bank. Unable to celebrate your child's birthday because you simply can't afford to? Stichting Jarige Job (the Birthday Person Foundation) offers children aged 4 to 12 years a birthday box. It contains everything you need for a birthday celebration. Applications can only be made through social organisations.
